The wildfire in Los Angeles has escalated to a more devastating level, impacting one of the United States' primary hubs for industry, commerce, and finance.
Fire Chief Anthony Marrone reported that over 5,000 acres in Palisades have been scorched, with the fire continuing to grow. Approximately 1,000 structures have been destroyed so far.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief stated that the Eaton Fire near Pasadena has claimed two lives and left several injured.
The fire has now doubled in size, expanding to approximately 2,227 acres.
Like other wildfires spreading across Southern California, none of this fire has been contained. The fire department noted significant challenges due to rough terrain and strong winds.
About 700 firefighters are working tirelessly to control the blaze. Local authorities have warned that the fire is dangerously advancing in both eastern and western directions.
The fire reportedly started around 10:30 AM local time on Tuesday. It spread rapidly due to gusts of wind reaching 50 miles per hour (80 km/h) and extremely dry conditions.
Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone emphasized that Pacific Palisades is "not out of danger." Millions of Californians remain under red alert as the risk of wildfire spread remains critical. Officials fear the blaze could expand further and intensify overnight.
